For me, It’s 100% the truth that around the Holidays baking cookies and other sweet treats is kicked into high gear. Normally, I am a baker throughout the entire year – I consider it a hobby – but something comes over me – maybe it’s because the apparel turns to cozy sweaters, or the gatherings with friends and families increases but something just makes me want to bake, bake, bake!
Have you ever participated in a cookie swap? If you are like me, when it comes to any sort of baking, there are times when I know immediately what I want to bake, and then there are times when I want to bake but struggle with what to create! I always have box mixes in my house and one of those brands that are often around is Krusteaz, makers of premium baking mixes. Krusteaz has an entire line of cookie mixes that are perfect for cookie swaps, holiday parties and gift exchanges. But, back to cookie swaps – how to you avoid being boring and only have one kind of cookie to swap?
With that idea, Krusteaz has created the The Holiday Cookie Helper – a fun quiz that will help you find the perfect recipe. I had a lot of fun taking this quiz and eventually decided to make new cookies from each box of cookies that I received – Chocolate Chip, Vanilla Sugar and Snickerdoodle!
With inspiration from the quiz, and really just a cozy Sunday inside, I ended up making FOUR kinds of cookies to include in my Cookie Swap this year: Winter Chocolate Chip Cookie Bark, Holiday Cookie Cups, Green Swirl Vanilla Sugar cookies and Caramel Surprise Snickerdoodles (that didn’t really turn out).
For the Winter Chocolate Chip Cookie Bark, I pulled inspiration from the recipe they had here, but added in sky blue food coloring and matching sprinkles from Fancy Sprinkles (that were kindly sent to me by Krusteaz, as well).
From the same box of Triple Chocolate Chunk I made festive cookie cups by rimming small cupcake tins with cookie dough, baking, and then spooning melted red and green colored candy melts into the center, and adding Christmas tree sprinkles!
For the the Green Swirl Vanilla Sugars using Krusteaz’s Vanilla Sugar cookie mix, I just colored the dough different shades of green and swirled them all together to create a ombre type cookie!
Finally, I wanted to add caramel to my Snickerdoodle cookie mix and thought adding a piece of caramel inside the dough would be a good idea….well, it wasn’t really. The dough turned out perfect, but the caramel ended up being rock hard inside. Oh well, nothing everything turns out perfectly, and you can bet I still kept the leftovers around anywho!
What kind of cookie would YOU create with a box of Krusteaz cookie mix?
The Holiday Cookie Helper is a fun tool to help you feel inspired and create a new cookie this year! To inspire you further, Krusteaz is providing 6 boxes of cookies to one winner! If you win, you’ll receive 2 boxes of Chocolate Chip Cookies, 2 boxes of Snickerdoodle Cookies, and 2 boxes of Vanilla Sugar Cookies – the best base and starters for creating all sorts of cookies!
