Something About the First Birthday

This post is sponsored by Basic Invite; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Is it me or is it something about The First Birthday that gets you a tad bit more emotional than all the other birthdays (or at least what I’ve experienced so far)? You’re celebrating the first year of  your baby’s life – that literally flew by and now you can’t believe you have a one year old. Makes you sad, yet excited that you’ve kept it altogether and are happy. Your baby is no longer really a baby, but a walking, biting, teeth-showin’, toddler that eats the same thing you do, and is starting to have definite personality quirks – and you can’t quite grasp that yet. I honestly just feel shocked, floored, taken aback at how quickly it went and maybe even quicker the second time around.

Don’t get me wrong, every birthday is special, but there’s something…different about the First One. All the others after that are easier to swallow, not so much of a shock and you just sort of roll on. With Truman, we never really had full on birthday parties, because we have family in two different states and it just made it difficult. Celebrating birthdays were rather low-key with nothing fancy and not a ton of work involved, which I don’t mind! However, there are times when I feel like I’ve missed out a bit on the planning process – I do find that sort of stuff fun, planning the invitations, maybe picking a theme, putting it altogether. I know this sort of thing isn’t every parents’ cup o’ tea, but I like to think that I wouldn’t have minded it.

The party all starts with the invites, and so for invitation inspiration, I highly suggest Basic Invite as your invitation creation resource! Despite the name, there is nothing “basic” about Basic Invite – a new to me invitation website for ordering toddler boy invites, and customizing all sorts of other stationery that I may need!

Almost Unlimited Colors

Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. Once you select a design you can change the color of each element on the card to over 180 different color options so you can make sure the card is exactly how you want it down to the littlest detail.

Custom Samples

Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers the ability to order a printed sample of their actual invitation so they can see exactly how it will print as well as the paper quality before they ever have to place their final order.

Over 40 Different Colors of Envelopes

Basic Invite is just as colorful with their envelopes as they are with their invitations. Customers can choose from over 40 different colors when it comes to their envelopes so that they can make their invitation stand out even before it is opened. All of our envelopes are peel and seal so the envelopes can be quickly and securely closed.

Address Capturing Service

Basic Invite offers an address capturing service that allows customers to simply share a link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other form of social media to request their friends and family’s addresses which will be stored in the customer’s account and can then be selected during the design process. Basic Invite offers recipient address printing at no cost on all Christmas card orders.

Foil

Foil holiday cards are available in gold, silver, and rose gold. Customers can choose flat or raised foil on all of Basic Invite’s foil designs.

The reason I became such a fan of this website is because it’s simple to use, yet provided me with so many options to customize and tailor my son’s boy birthday invites to how I wanted! When it comes to this type of website, I don’t want it to be overwhelming to the point where I get frustrated and give up!

Tell me about your birthday gatherings – do you go all out for your kids each year? Or do you keep it simple?

I completely agree! There is definitely something about the FIRST birthday that is so much fun and a big milestone for baby, as well as mama! I celebrated my son’s 1st birthday just last summer and I must admit that I went a bit over the top. I had a terrible time getting pregnant (IVF 3 times) with a difficult pregnancy so I felt the need to celebrate my little miracle. I had the celebration in my own home but had a “splash bash” theme with customized invitations, decorations, food, bouncy house and all kinds of splash and bash activities in the yard. Pinterest was a HUGE help in giving me ideas to go with the theme of the party and pushed me a bit overboard. LOL But it was well worth it. He’ll only be one once! Sometimes ya gotta splurge.

I agree with you. The FIRST birthday seems very special, especially if you are a first time mama. Thanks for sharing your story

That’s a really cool website. I’ll have to show this to my sister. I think she would like to do that for niece and nephew birthday. My sister comes and goes in their parties. They are years where she goes all out for it then the next just a family gathering. That’s how it was for me growing up.
