I’ve been doing so good lately – using up products, not purchasing new ones (unless it’s during my couponing adventures) and weeding through the good and bad. I’ve truly come to believe that my makeup collection is…ridiculous. I mean, I have stuff – lots of stuff – from months ago, untouched. I basically have a makeup store in my apartment and running out of room to store things. As I go through it all – I’m going to share the products that did not work for me along the way. I enjoy creating series that appear more than once on my blog and when it comes to my blog, I’m struggling a bit to get consistent content out. The want is there, but the energy and time is missing almost daily so throwing in these kind of posts are easier yet still fun to create! One of my favorite kinds of blog posts or YouTube videos to read/watch are ones about products that failed.
For the record, makeup is personal and just because it failed for me doesn’t mean it will be a failure for you! We all have things that work differently!
On to the products that did not float my boat…
City Color Cosmetic’s Sprinkle Palette – I have no clue what I was thinking when I purchased this. City Color Cosmetics is an affordable makeup brand that often has sales to make their products even more affordable! I think when I saw this on their website, being only $6.00 and loving the shades I thought I’d love it. Yet, I knew before I even tried, when I received it that it would not be a good palette. It reminds me of something I would have purchased in Junior High from Claire’s. Part of it is my fault because I already had a couple of other brightly colored eye shadow palettes, so why would I need another one? It did not swatch or go on the eyelid well, either.
No7 Beautifully Matte Make Up Base – This has been discontinued, so maybe I am not the only one whose boat it did not float. The first time I used this I did not use moisturizer like it said to do and thought how awful… and then the second time I tested it, I did use a moisturizer and still left feeling the same way. This stuff just was so bad for my skin! It made my makeup look horrendous. I had patches where it did not blend and while yes, it was very matte, it was almost too matte, and it was hard to work with. I actually removed my makeup after using it because it just looked that bad and now I sort of wish I had a photo to show you more of what I mean, but putting foundation over this makeup base was not a smooth process.
Rimmel Stay Matte Primer – Another primer fail and with similiar results as No7’s however no where near as bad. This dried SO FAST and made it difficult to apply makeup over. Not only that but it did not minimize my pores or keep my skin looking less oily like it claimed it should. I have been having terrible luck with primers – I know that I love Smashbox’s Photo Finish primer, but so far have no found one that even comes close.
Realher Expert Advice Lip Liner – The reason this failed is because the liner pencil broke and fell out after only a couple uses. It’s always a bummer when a product falls apart before you can really begin to enjoy it. From the little use that I had before it broke, I did enjoy the lip pencil, especially the color: I am UnStoppable. I received this in a beauty subscription (Boxycharm, maybe?) so it’s not a total loss, just would have loved to enjoy it more.
Physican’s Formula Organic Wear WORK IT! Mascara – I hated the brush, and the lack of results and even more the black flakes that would fall onto my cheeks after applying this. There was nothing good about this mascara!
Lastly, Laura Geller’s Island Escape palette that I reviewed recently ended up being something I regretted buying. The packaging is lovely, and the color selections were up my alley, but what really comes down to a product being a success is how the product performs, and it was just sort of a struggle for me. As I mentioned in my post, it’s definitely a palette that you can pass on.
