Books are always gems for our family and they always end up as gift options for a lot of occasions! Story time is one of the few times when we can turn off electronics and sit together and read – sometimes before bed, but often at random times throughout the day. I grew up being a book nerd, and am always encouraging the love of books for my children. While, H is a bit young to actually sit still, with the addition of him this year, I now have more of an audience when I read. I love all sorts of books for my kids, but obviously, the educational ones will rank high! National Geographic Kids has a huge selection of informational, yet fun books, and I was sent 5 of them to share with my readers! With the Holidays, the following books are appropriate for many different age ranges!
Although, it may seem too late to receive the Weird but True! Christmas Edition book as a gift, but it’s really not! This book is jammed pack full of interesting facts that make for great conversation starters each year. Chances are you are bound to forget the factoids in this book anyways by next year! Suitable best for ages 8-12, Truman is a bit young to read this on his own, but reading the facts together, accompanied by the fun, bright photos is the best way to go with someone who doesn’t know how to read yet! The size of the book also makes for a good stocking stuffer!
Just Joking Jumbo – Another good stocking stuff book that contains 1,000 jokes and funny photos! Jokes include knock-knocks, puns, riddles, tongue-twisters, photos of silly situations and some ‘crazy’ information about the history of funny business! My son has been into knock knock jokes lately – I don’t think he really gets them, but he tries!
Ultimate Dinopedia – Is for all Dinosaur fanatics! The book is a big, gift-worthy hardcover that is the most complete and comprehensive dinosaur reference ever! There are more than 600 dinos featured, including profiles on 10 recently discovered dinosaurs and new entries to the Dino Dictonary. Ever Dino profile is colorfully illustrated and features descriptions of when they roamed the Earth, how they lived, what they ate, and much more! This 2nd edition includes favorites, and new finds!
Bet You Didn’t Know: Fascination, Far-Out, Fun-tastic Facts – Ideal for ages 9-12, this book is packed with beautiful photos and guaranteed to keep kids occupied for hours with facts! Based on a favorite department in Nat Geo Kids magazine, this book is overflowing with fascinating facts, silly stats and catchy little knowledge factors in all kinds of categories like astronomy, sea creatures to revolutions and breakfast.
