How to Show Extra Love to Your Cat When Major Life Events Occur!

In 2017 our family grew to become a family of four – but really 5 if you count Beau. Beau is a cat easily frightened by loud noises (crying in particular), and strangers, I was a bit concerned before our second son was born at how he would react. It wasn’t because this was our first child, but it was because when we welcomed our first son back in 2013, Beau had a companion and that’s why I always thought he had done fairly well. In 2016 though, his companion passed away, and he’s been the only cat ever since. He manages well, but I can tell that he’s lonely and starved for more attention, which I struggle to give him on a daily basis. I do my best but in a day filled with little hours already as it is, it can be tough.

Some people may not think that treating your pets extra special around big life changes like this are not necessary, but I am a big believer that they are part of the family and they deserve it! I have seen first hand the effects that cats can experience when they are stressed out! I also looked at it as an opportunity to purchase brand new things for Beau since it’s been a while. I’m a big fan of creating baskets/bundles for my friends and family in my life, so why not my cat, too?

The easiest way to find the best stuff to include in my present for Beau and find things that would help him stay happy and relaxed, was by heading to the PetSmart store just 2 miles down the road! Not only is the cat section full of great ideas that help cover all our pets needs, I love that they have veterinarian services and obedience training classes, too!

Fresh cat litter from Tidy Cats is a must!

One of the first things I picked up, and something I always make sure I have on hand with back ups, was the TIDY CATS® newest addition to their litter collection, TIDY CATS® Free & Clean™ Unscented Clumping Litter! Any cat owner could agree that litter box odors can be tiresome to cover up and possibly take away the time we have with our cats. TIDY CATS® Free and Clean is a NEW dye and fragrance free litter option that doesn’t just mask those pesky odors but works to destroy them as well thanks to the odor-absorbing power of activated charcoal. Since TIDY CATS® Free and Clean does such a great job at keeping the odors at bay, the limited time with Beau is a lot more harmonious!

A comfy bed to help your cat feel comfy at home in his own special spot!

If your cat wears a collar, changing it up can be fun!

One of my favorite cat purchases involve the dishes he uses – sort of weird, but with a cute selection like these at PetSmart it sort of explains why I love them so much!

Beau hadn’t gotten any new catnip toys since last Valentine’s Day, so I knew that now was a good time to pick up some new ones and I found the cutest ones there! I also found a basket to hold all the items I purchased for him, and also be used later on as a toy basket! It’s nice that he’d have his own separate from the kids’!

I also ended up picking up some food, treats, and new food and water dishes to include in his gift! Minus all the gifts I ended up getting for him to show my affection and hopefully keep him happy, I still know that one of the biggest ways I can show love is to keep his litter box cleaned! Have you ever made your pet a gift basket? If so, why?

For a limited time when you purchase (1) 35-lb TIDY CATS® Free & Clean Unscented Clumping Litter at PetSmart, you’ll receive one $5.00 code for Spa Session (one transaction, 1/8 through 4/8/18). To receive your gift code send a photo of your receipt from PetSmart featuring TIDY CATS® Free and Clean litter to 30364 with the code GIFT in the message portion.

I do baskets at the holidays for my pets but, honestly, if I’m in a store I’m buying something for the pets. I just can’t leave without getting a treat or a surprise, which is what makes PetSmart so wonderful! #client

I definitely have never owned a cat so I did not know anything about all of this. I will definitely remember this information if I ever get a cat or handle someone else’s. Big events are hard on all family members for sure. Thanks for sharing!

I haven’t made baskets for my fur babies, but I try to treat them as often as possible. The best investment I ever made for them was getting a couple of cat trees. It gives them endless entertainment.

It is amazing how animals react, I think non pet owners don’t understand that they feel, and sense things even more than humans. I am a dog person myself, but every time there is a life changing event it takes extra time and love to make sure they know I am still here for them and everything will be okay. Bones and toys help to!!

Yes! Exactly! I feel like our cat who passed away died faster than he should of because of the added stress of our first child! =(

I just got a kitten at the end of last year so this was a fun read for me! I recently got him a toy that looks like a boa and he can’t get enough of it. Thanks for the great ideas!

This is great for all the cat lovers out there. Details of being a pet owner that a non pet owner would never think of.
