Makeup Wars

Eyeliner Wars: Make Up Forever vs. Rimmel London

Alot of the times I never really plan to do an Eyeliner War…it just happens. In this case, it just so happened that I received a free sample in the mail of the Rimmel Kohl eyeliner and received the Makeup Forever Aqua XL Waterproof Eye Pencil in April’s Sephora Play! box so it was basically meant to be!

From the outside, the two are identical, which isn’t saying much since the shade in review is black.

Make Up Forever’s AQUAXL Waterproof Eye Pencil claims to be a long lasting formula that won’t budge, crease, or fade until removed. Each pencil has rich color with a super-gliding texture that does not skip or tug during application and lasts all day! I received the deluxe sized sample in my Sephora Play! box, so the full size is of course bigger for $21. Being $21 per eye pencil makes things add up quickly – especially when you want to try so many beautiful shades.

Rimmel London’s Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil has the intensity of a liquid liner in an easy to use pencil format. It’s waterproof, easy to use and claims to last 24 hours!

The Verdict – Who won?

This was a real close one! Both eye pencils lasted many hours – I’d say about 5 before I noticed any sort of issues! When I came home after work to take photos, you can clearly see in the photo that the Rimmel pencil had transferred a bit onto my eyelid – which is a common problem for me, having oily lids.

Normally, at least lately, I have no been wearing  much black eyeliner unless it’s just a cat eye on top – wearing it on my water line has made me feel like I can’t pull off that look anymore. For testing purpose today though, I decided to wear black eyeliner there because I felt that the waterline is just as if not more important then anywhere! I was fully prepared to come home with raccoon eyes!

Make Up Forever’s was pretty much amazing and hopefully you are able to see from the photo above that it stayed put until removal. When I went to remove the eyeliner, I started first with makeup remover wipes. Using those helped remove about 75% of the eyeliner on the Rimmel side and none from the Make Up Forever side! I got it off after many wipes using my Bioderma. So, the winner was definetely Make Up Forever, but Rimmel London – for $4 – is pretty awesome in it’s own right! It’s very hard for me to find an eye pencil that is drugstore or “cheap” that doesn’t crease or transfer onto my upper lid, but sometimes you just have to pay for the quality. Rimmel is a great alternative for anyone who doesn’t want to shell out $21 for a pencil!
